Montezuma Megaways is an online slot from WMS and is the Megaways version of the classic Aztec slot machine Montezuma. Unfortunately Montezuma can hardly be found in the casinos of the Las Vegas Strip but online you can now play it in two versions: the regular and the Montezuma Megaways version.
We have always been a big fan of the original Montezuma, with the beautiful graphics, the free spins with extra multipliers and many retriggers. We were therefore very curious whether the magic has been preserved and whether it has even resulted in a better version by implementing the Megaways mechanism. - WMS fortunately did nothing about the symbols and the theme. The colors, the sharpness, the beautiful artwork: it is like designing a master class slot.
It all looks very recognizable, but it is also very new. As with many other Megaways slots, there is a separate role at the top of the screen, which provides a different dimension. Winning symbols give way to new ones: new symbols appear on the top reel from the right and they fall down on the large playing field. This way no turning is the same.
Symbols and payouts
The wild symbol is the famous temple. This replaces all other symbols except the scatters. The wilds only appear on the middle reels. The high paying symbols consist of the Aztec warrior, the priestess, an ornament, a dagger, a snake and a mask. Spin 6 the same for prizes that are between 0.25 x and 25 x the total bet. The card symbols J, Q, K and A pay out between 0.2 x and 0.25 x the bet for a 6-of-a-kind. Due to the nature of the beast, with the many ways to win, wilds and multipliers (during the free spins), you can actually drag a monster payout with any symbol.
Respin feature
The respin feature can be activated at random moments (after a non-winning spin). The top roll, which is shaped like the top of a wheel, is then rotated again. Sometimes that still provides a winning spin.
Montezuma Megaways Free spins bonus
3 or more scatters gives you the free spins bonus. You can spin the big wheel to determine how many free spins you win and the following applies: the more scatters, the more spins you can win. During the free spins, the well-known progressive multiplier is active: every winning combination provides a +1 multiplier. But it can also go faster: every two or more scatters deliver a spin on the mini-wheel. You are now running for extra high multipliers, which can go up to a whopping x 100. The final spin of the bonus round is extra exciting: if you now know how to turn two scatters, you can spin the wheel again. All winnings achieved up to that point will then be multiplied by the multiplier you have played.

What do we think of the Montezuma Megaways slot?
WMS is of course working hard to make Megaways versions of all their known online slots. There is already a Raging Rhino Megaways slot and there will undoubtedly be Megaways versions of Kronos, Bier Haus and Wizard of Oz. In any case, it's nice to see how Montezuma Megaways have managed to brew something so beautiful. The strong qualities of the original have been preserved and the addition of the Megaways engine has created a completely new title.
